The Engineering Research Centre at the University
of Glamorgan undertakes a wide range of research work including heat
transfer modeling, condition monitoring and advanced control of energy
systems. Since 2001, the Centre has managed external research funding
totaling more than £4.8M from a variety of sources including
the Carbon Trust, ECSC, RFCS and BCURA. The Centre has an extensive
range of instrumentation including a 60 kW gas-fired test furnace,
a fluidised bed for combustion of gaseous, liquid and solid fuels,
and an acid-alkali combustion simulation facility. In addition the
Centre also has an appropriate range of software and has exclusive
access to a parallel processing Beowulf cluster for numerically intensive
